The lead teacher has been working with this educational philosophy for about 15-20 some years, and I think she knew where I was coming from with my arguments. They WANT the school to be a good, safe place for children to learn.

Secondly, I think it was important to explore our options. Doing that reminded us of many good things that his current school had to offer. We also learned that most of the alternatives did not suit our needs.

I am very glad that the school was willing and able to work with us, and I agree that DS is learning a powerful message.Emberhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13230721171259567623noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1285234077443959141.post-24600768882338046142012-08-08T07:43:00.650-05:002012-08-08T07:43:00.650-05:00Great job, Mom! By working with the school you showed him how to affect profound change on his world. Even at 3, 4, and 5, our kids are paying attention to those messages. Way to go!!Amyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10315843187811122669noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1285234077443959141.post-25717210679243966422012-08-02T20:46:53.357-05:002012-08-02T20:46:53.357-05:00Thank you for reading my blog and adding your comm...Thank you for reading my blog and adding your comment.

I do discuss the Boy Scouts among my friends and family members. I've posted earlier that I am Unitarian Universalist, so between BSA's stance on GLBT issues and their stance on atheism, the odds of my son becoming a Boy Scout are fairly low.

Which is unfortunate. My father was a Boy Scout, my brothers were Cub Scouts, I grew up reading my brothers Boy's Life magazines. My husband was a Boy Scout.

Good grief, George Takei was a Boy Scout!

I am, unfortunately, not in a position to call out the Boy Scouts publicly right now. It's not the ideal situation, but we pick our battles and work for change where we can.Emberhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13230721171259567623noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1285234077443959141.post-47629207073983075572012-08-02T07:51:16.878-05:002012-08-02T07:51:16.878-05:00The Boy Scouts of America have stated publicly sin...The Boy Scouts of America have stated publicly since at least 2002 that gay men "lack the moral values" to be Scout leaders and blatantly refuse to hire them because of their sexual orientation.

In the same statement, the BSA said that "duty to God is not an option... [in the BSA]... it is an obligation."

BSA Press Release

And yet in all these years the SPLC has never designated the BSA as an "anti-gay religious hate group." Why not?

Well, it seems that many of the SPLC's donors were Scouts, or the parents/grandparents of Scouts, and linking the almighty donors to a "hate group" is bad for business.

"Fighting hate" is all well and good until it cuts into the bottom line.

It's this "selective indignation" that keeps $106,000 donor-dollars a day flowing into the SPLC's coffers... or about $4,400 each and every hour.

http://wp.me/pCLYZ-d3

Some "experts"rkeefe57https://www.blogger.com/profile/17644791758352864725noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1285234077443959141.post-73471095233393656742011-08-14T21:33:07.486-05:002011-08-14T21:33:07.486-05:00Thank you! I was fortunate to be able to take the 5 years of math and 4 years of science mentioned, plus a computing class that included typing, programming in Pascal, and an introduction to a number of different software programs. (The Personal Computing era had well begun by the time I started high school.)

My typing skills have DEFINITELY helped my productivity on the job.Emberhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13230721171259567623noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1285234077443959141.post-12122399703917540722011-08-10T18:41:02.988-05:002011-08-10T18:41:02.988-05:00Great information, Kim. "Back then" no one encouraged me to take high school physics and so I took typing which, with the computer age, has paid back handsomely, and bookkeeping, the typical 'girl' classes. Kids will be yards ahead by taking your advice!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
